We know our E-Dry blog readers love our natural cleaning solutions. It’s amazing what simple ingredients like vinegar, lemons and vodka can do to clean your home!
The ingredient that has surprised me the most, though? Bi-Carb Soda is a fantastic product that is super powerful and can be used for a variety of tasks in your home. I’ve put a list together of my five favourite uses.
1. Remove Mattress Odours Naturally 
It’s easy to do, just sprinkle some of this powerhouse powder on your mattress and leave it to sit for 20 minutes. Vacuum it up and you’re done! The same trick works wonders on lounge suites too. Why does it work? The Bi-Carb Soda draws out moisture and dirt from your mattress and turns into clumps that are easily vacuumed up. The deodorising properties remove odours from your mattress too.
2. Make Drain Smells History 
Bi-Carb and white vinegar combined are a force to be reckoned with. Pour a couple of tablespoons of the powder down the drain, then the same amount of white vinegar. The effect is awesome, it bubbles away like a volcano before your eyes. Cover the rain with a cloth, wait about 10 minutes then run hot water down the drain to rinse.
3. Give Your Grout A Clean
Mix together water and some Bi-Carb (a couple of tablespoons per 500mls) creates awesome results for the tiled surfaces at your place. Use an old toothbrush or even a scrubbing brush to work on your grout to get a great result.
4. Get Your Kitchen in Order 
Dirty Tupperware is clean in a jiffy by adding a little Bi-Carb to the sponge and scrubbing away. If it is a stubborn stain, just add a couple of tablespoons and some water into the container and let it soak for about 30 minutes. A simple mix of Bi-Carb and water can also be used on kitchen benchtops, appliances and fridge interiors and leave them sparkling clean.
5. Take Control in the Laundry
Here’s my favourite use. Add a cup of Bi-Carb Soda to your next load (with your detergent) and see what it does to your clothes. Bi-Carb will brighten whites and colours and also eliminate odours. Bi-Carb regulates the PH levels in the washing machine water, reacting with the detergent to make your clothes softer and ensure the detergent is doing its job. A tablespoon or two with water will also work effectively at pre-treating clothes with stubborn stains. Shine up your iron too with a mix of Bi-Carb and water, using a white cloth to gently remove starch build-up from the plate.
Why is Bi-Carb Soda such a fantastic product?
Bi-Carb Soda (or Baking Soda) is a mild alkaline that reacts with water to break down grime. It’s a gentle abrasive too, which means it does a great job of targeting grit and stains. It’s a safer option than commercial cleaning products and best of all, it only costs about $3!
