Your trusty toothpaste isn’t just for keeping your teeth clean. While your toothpaste can work miracles getting scratches off your sunglasses and mobile phone screen, it’s also got amazing cleaning prowess around the home.
Here’s what you need to arm yourself with:
The toothpaste, obviously! |
Old toothbrush (more than one is a good idea) |
Microfibre cloths |
Normal cloths |
Scrubbing brush |
Paper towel |
Having normal as well as whitening varieties will be handy.
Beautify your Bathroom
Shine up your bathroom and attack soap scum with this neat little tip. Just add some toothpaste, scrub with a toothbrush and rinse! On your stainless steel fixtures, rub with a damp microfibre cloth instead of the toothbrush. So shiny!
Remove Stains From Clothing
Just squeeze a really small amount to the stain, gently rub and rinse off immediately. I had to do this step a couple of times because it was a stubborn stain (baby vomit – don’t ask) before throwing it in the washing machine. I recommend doing a patch test first though as whitening toothpaste may have a bleaching effect.
Freshen Up Plastic Furniture
Whitening toothpaste is great at cleaning white plastic furniture. Agitate stains with a scrubbing brush and the toothpaste, and wipe down.
Give your sneakers a sneaky clean
Grab your old toothbrush to make your old sneakers look brand new again. Make sure you take the laces out first, give them a good scrub with a small amount of toothpaste and then rinse with warm water. You may need to put them out in the sunshine to dry. Trust me, this tip will work a treat – my sneakers looked great after I gave them a scrub!
Remove Marker and Crayons
Your walls don’t need to look like an abstract art gallery thanks to your trusty toothpaste. With an active toddler at home who loves to draw, I was very excited about this trick! Squeeze some paste onto the marks and rub in a circular motion with a damp cloth until the toothpaste – and the crayon – is gone!
Make Silver Jewellery Shine
Put a small amount of toothpaste on your silver then use the microfibre cloth to rub it in well. Rinse in warm water then gently pat dry with either paper towel or a dry cloth. I won’t be purchasing expensive jewellery cleaner anymore, that’s for sure!
Scrub Stinky Hands
I love garlic, but cooking with it can make your hands smell pretty pungent! Include some toothpaste while you’re washing your hands to remove those odours. Remember to scrub underneath your fingernails as well.
