How to Remove Soft Drink from Carpet

As sweet as it is, spilling soft drink on the carpet can be a total pain. The colouring and sugar in soft drink means a spill becomes a sticky mess, real quick!

We’ve come to the rescue with some easy steps to treat that soft drink stain!

Supplies:

• Soda water

• Clean white or colourfast towel, or paper towel

• Warm water

• Dishwashing liquid

A clean cloth or paper towel will do a great job of soaking up the coke. Fold the towel over and stand on it, or use the heel of your palm to apply pressure.

You’ll need to continue this step until all the liquid has been soaked up. When we tested out this step in the E-Dry lab, there wasn’t much visible staining left at this stage. This may be the same for you but follow through with the next steps, because dirt will stick to any soft drink residue that may be hiding in the carpet fibres.

Pour soda water onto a clean cloth, then dab gently at the stain. Remember not to rub at the carpet, which can spread the stain. Keep going until there is no more colour transfer onto the cloth.

Mix a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid with 1 litre of warm water and sponge the stain. Doing this will wet the carpet fibres. Place pressure on the area with a thick absorbent cloth to dry the area. The dishwashing detergent will help remove remaining sugar so that the stain won’t come back.

If you have the Electro 3 Spot and Stain remover then you can use this instead of the dishwashing detergent solution to remove the sugar residue. Spray the affected area and wipe in one direction several times and repeat, wiping in the other direction.
